Ploy Photography - Native Cambodian Photographer

My biography

Welcome all international visitor and photographers to my personal blog and Cambodia: Kingdom of Wonder. My name is Ploy and I am a native Cambodian photographer from Siem Reap.

I was born in 1990 in Prey Veng province, east of Phnom Penh. I am the oldest of three boys. When I was 7 years old moved to Siem Reap to live with my grandmother and uncle. Now I have a small place of my own. My father also lives in Siem Reap with my oldest brother and my mother lives in Prey Veng with my youngest brother. My father lives here for work and returns to Prey Veng to visit my mother when he is able.

For the past five year I've been working as a tour guide for an NGO called Khmer for Khmer Organization (KKO). I've gained a lot of valuable experience leading cycling tours for them and enjoy meeting travelers from all over the world.

In 2013, I discovered my love for photography. But, at that time I only had a smartphone to take photos. In 2014, i started saving money from my work as a guide with KKO to buy a good camera. By the middle of 2014, I purchased a secondhand Canon EOS 600D with lens 18-135mm UTM lens from a friend. And, in 2015, I switched to secondhand Canon EOS 60D with 24mm EFS, 55-250mm EFS, and 24-105mm EF lenses.

Everywhere I go I take my camera with me. Sometimes I head out with friends. But, most often I am on my own. At home I spend time posting photos on facebook, researching the technical aspects of photography online, and watching tutorials on Youtube.

Today I specialize in capturing daily life in rural Cambodia. As Cambodia countinues to develop, life in the countryside is changing. It is my goal to capture the real Cambodia through photography so that it is not forgotten. I hope to share my photos with people around the world so that they might get a true glimpse of life in Cambodia: Kingdom of Wonder.
